Ushahidi: platform to support disaster relief

Ushahidi is a platform that supports crowdsourcing information in crisis scenarios, such as popular insurgencies, or natural disasters. It uses multiple channels such as SMS, email, Twitter and the web. “The core platform is built on the premise that gathering crisis information from the general public provides new insights into events happening in near real-time. It is also expected to help organizations marshal efforts to assist areas that are not well covered in the mainstream media.” The Ushahidi platform can be setup in 2 minutes to start crowdsourcing information on a subject.
